TWO armed robbers from Yardley Wood who ransacked a house in Moseley before stealing two cars have been jailed.

Alex Day, 25 of Hornby Road and Mark Motram, 21, of Yardley Wood Road smashed their way into the property in the early hours of October 1 last year, armed with hammers and crowbars.

They threatened a couple who were woken up as the duo trashed their home before fleeing in two Audis parked on the drive.

The police used an app to track one of the cars and found it parked up in Priory Gardens.

The pair tried to flee by jumping into the River Cole but officers and Police Dog Olaf tracked and pursued Motram and he was arrested nearby.

Day was apprehended after a foot chase.

Both were charged with aggravated burglary, theft of motor vehicles and breaching their respective criminal behaviour orders and found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court.

They were each sentenced to nine years behind bars.
