THREE teenagers were arrested in Birmingham City Centre this afternoon on suspicion of drug and weapons offences.
The trio were seen brandishing a zombie-style knife on Bennetts Hill at 1.30pm in the afternoon by an off-duty officer.
Firearms officers were sent to the scene and two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old, all from the Second City, were detained and questioned.
One of the 16-year-olds was also arrested on suspicion with intent to supply drugs.
Ch Insp Jack Hadley from the Force’s Response team said: “The fact that three young people were brandishing weapons in broad daylight is shocking, but this is a good result, and great work from our firearms officers in reaching the scene swiftly, seizing knifes and making arrests.”
The police have vowed to continue the fight against weapons throughout 2019.
And they have urged anyone with any information on knife crime to call officers on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
