WEST MIDLANDS Police revealed yesterday that it had taken the highest number of 999 calls in one day in its history.
There were 3,276 emergency requests for assistance because of a mix of the sun, alcohol and the World Cup.
The force urged people only to ring 999 if it was a real emergency and Chief Constable Dave Thompson said it was not a record it would be trying to break in the future.
