WEST Midlands Police took two guns off the streets of Birmingham yesterday after officers discovered the firearms in the city centre.
Sometime after 3am a man was arrested in Hurst Street and what officers called a viable firearm was taken from him – it was loaded with ammunition.
A specialist firearm team immediately made the gun safe and the man was taken into custody.
He was due to be questioned yesterday evening.
Police also seized a black gas-powered gun on Berkley Street which had been thrown into a bush by an 18-year-old lad when officers approached him on Broad Street.
After first retrieving the firearm, they then tracked down the teen and arrested him.
He was released on bail pending further enquiries.
Anyone with any information on gun crime in their community should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
