A BRAVE police officer who saved a man from a house fire has received two awards.
PC Phil Southern was patrolling around Edgbaston when he was sent to an address in Hagley Road where a man had set fire to a bin.
PC Southern forced entry to the property and pulled the man from the smoke-filled room to safety.
West Midlands Fire Service later described PC Southern as a potential life-saver as they believed the man may have died in the incident in December 2017 had it not been for his swift action.
At a bravery awards ceremony PC Southern was awarded both a Chief Constable’s Commendation and a Society for the Protection of Life from Fire award.
