Operation Top Deck – 19 drivers caught in 90 minutes using their mobile phones at the wheel

A TOTAL of 19 drivers using their mobile phone at the wheel were caught within an-hour-and-a-half during the latest round of West Midlands Police’s Operation Top Deck.
The scheme sees police officers sitting on the top decks of buses to look down on motorists who are using their phones whilst driving.
They then radio through to colleagues who pull over the offending drivers and they are prosecuted.
The operation was carried out by the West Midlands Police Road Harm Reduction Team.
Motorists can receive six points on their licence and a £200 fine if they are caught using their handheld phones at the wheel.
