Moseley Road Baths celebrates its first birthday as a community pool

MOSELEY Road Baths celebrated its first anniversary as a community pool.

One of the volunteers Albertha made a cake to mark the special occasion.

It follows years of campaigning after the popular baths were threatened with closure.

A friends group was set up in 2006 which later became an action group in 2016.

Then in 2017 a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) was formed and took control of the baths this time last year on a not-for-profit basis.

Trustees are members of the local community and regular swimmers at the pool and many have been involved for the years of campaigning to save the Grade 2 historic building.

The CIO is currently looking for trustees to join its team after two trustees moved into an Operations Manager role.

The new trustees will take places on the board and help the CIO to develop Moseley Road Baths into an even more successful community pool.

Chair of Trustees Karen Leach said: “Being a MRBCIO trustee is a very positive and rewarding experience in spite of the challenges we face.

“We’re looking for people who share our passion for and active commitment to MRB and have the time to participate in our monthly meetings, as well as subgroup activity in between.”

Among the skills the CIO is looking for is a treasurer, to monitor the finances and make bank payments, a communications lead, to coordinate the communications and marketing subgroup, someone to lead the fund-raising and deliver a fund-raising strategy and someone with knowledge of swimming as a sector – teaching, pool management or similar.

“We’re also really keen that we continue to reflect the diversity of Balsall Heath’s population, so we welcome applications from local people.

“If you are interested but don’t have experience as a trustee or director, please do get in touch for a chat.

“For the right person, we can provide support and training to help you fulfil the role,” added Karen.

Anyone interested should visit to read the role descriptions and person specification.

Applications should be emailed to [email protected] with applicants outlining what relevant skills and experiences they have.

The deadline for applications is 9am on April 29.

People can also contact Karen to ask any questions or to arrange an informal chat.
