THE ILLUMINATED regatta held on the lake on Bournville Lane on Saturday has been hailed a great success.
The event, organised by the Bournville Radio Sailing and Model Boat Club, continues to grow.
This year it was supported this year by the Worcester Model Boat Club, Little Radford Model Boat Club, Bournville Model Railway Society, RNLI and Dans Cannons.
The early afternoon rain did not dampen spirits and a good crowd turned up on the cool dry evening, perfectly setting the scene for the fully-illuminated models of a Victorian Pier, an oil rig, lighthouse and tanker which decorated the lake.
All models on the water after dusk were illuminated and the event culminated in a fleet review of all the boats present.
Coun Liz Clements was warmly welcomed by the club and showed a keen interest in all the models.
She praised the club for its community involvement and asked to be invited to future events.
The original Bournville Model Yachting Club was founded in the 1922 and met at Rowheath Park.
In 1926 George Cadbury commissioned an area of marshland off Bournville lane to be reclaimed and the concrete pool which is there today was constructed.
The club moved to this new purpose made home in 1932.
The club provides an area for people wishing to sail radio-controlled yachts and electric or steam powered model boats and is affiliated to the Model Yachting Association and the Model Power Boat Association.
