THE FIRST driver to go to court for using their mobile phone at the wheel after being snared by West Midlands Police’s Operation Top Deck was convicted on Tuesday.
The offender was fined £676 and given six penalty points on their driving licence after being caught by officers sitting on the top deck of a bus and looking down to witness the incident.
They then radio through to their colleagues who pull the driver over for the offence.
It is an ongoing operation by officers who use the hashtag #OpTopDeck when reporting incidents and successful activity through social media.
