A DELIVERY driver was dragged from his vehicle and beaten so badly he was left unconscious before his van was stolen in a car-jacking in Selly Oak.

The attack happened in Umberslade Road this morning.

The crime spree began at 6am when a woman rode her bike across the path of the delivery driver, causing him to brake sharply and stop.

It was then the attack happened.

He was taken to hospital with head injuries where he remained last night under observation.

The stolen van was then used to ram the front of a motorbike shop in Sutton Coldfield less than an hour later and three off-road bikes were stolen.

Then just before 7.30am police were alerted to disorder in Ivy Road, Stirchley, where a group of men were causing a noise nuisance and arguing with neighbours.

When police arrived they found a man and a woman suspected of stealing off-road bikes and arrested them in connection with the incidents.

Witnesses or anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
