RESURGENT Alvechurch completed a remarkable season when they finished runners-up in the Evo-Stik Southern Division to make it back-to-back promotions.

Church finished off a relentless final eight days, where they played four games, to seal second spot and ensure they will be playing in the Premier Division next season.

It will be the first time the village club will play in the third tier of non-league football in several decades.

Church kicked off their final run-in with a 3-1 win at Carlton Town before seeing off Market Drayton 3-0 away on Tuesday.

That meant the Lye Meadow outfit needed just a point for promotion with Thursday’s 0-0 draw at home to Bedworth United ensuring second place.

Church completed their league campaign with a 3-2 loss at home to Loughborough Dynamo but that could not dampen the celebrations.

Meanwhile in the Midlands Premier, champions Bromsgrove Sporting celebrated their promotion with a 5-0 win over South Normanton Athletic.

At the club’s end of season awards striker Jason Cowley was named fans’ and players’ player of the year.

Danny Morris was manager Brendan Kelly’s choice of player of the campaign, while Reece Francis bagged the Supporters Society accolade.

There were also gongs for Kelly and Andy Mason from the directors and sponsors.
