An evening of drama, culture and community bonding as the New Life Baptist church and Drama 13 Presented The Farndale Ladies Macbeth

I was delighted to be invited to see Drama 13 perform a Shakespeare classic with a twist in the tale.

It was a cold and dreary night so it was great to see the community young and old coming out to support the cast.

Upon arrival

I was invited in to take my seat and handed a program; I got to know some of the crowd – I spoke with a gentleman and his wife about the theatre and found out the lady used to be a seasoned veteran herself, she explained she once performed in London theatres professionally.

The show

I truly didn’t know what to expect as the cast were walking to the stage – the cast were in character and period dress, they shouted and bawled as they walked through the room.

As the show started I was startled as a man started hammering on the stage (yes you read that right).

The lights kept short circuiting, the stage was set up in the wrong direction, this wasn’t your normal version of Macbeth! No it was jam packed with humour to dampen the usual intense and serious drama.

The silliness was intended

From the stage manager who played lady Macbeth, to the witch who kept walking on the stage mid scene, the cast  kept us entertained through the entire show. There were so many twists and turns, it left me scratching my head and wondering what ever will happen next!?

The interval

During the interval, we were treated to tea and coffee made by the volunteers of the company.

Chris’ final thoughts

I thought the show was amazing; the best part for me truly was seeing the community come together and to be welcomed in as it felt great.

The acting within the show was really good too! June Tyler the lady who played Macbeth really stood out to me with her lines being read out perfectly amongst the chaos, along with the witch who kept walking on stage mid scene!

I was also very entertained by John Dowell who played the adjudicator George Plumb or was it Peach I’m not sure!

Every last character made the show what it was and everyone there enjoyed it and I would encourage anyone to go see their next performance.
